Dark Matter Searches with GLAST

چکیده

The Gamma-Ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST), scheduled to be launched in fall 2007, is the next generation satellite for high-energy gamma-ray astronomy. The Large Area Telescope (LAT), GLAST main instrument, with a wide field of view (> 2 sr), a large effective area (> 8000 cm at 1 GeV) and 20 MeV 300 GeV energy range, will provide excellent high energy gamma-ray observations for Dark Matter searches. In this paper we examine the potential of the LAT to detect gamma-rays coming from WIMPS annihilation in the context of supersymmetry. As an example, two search regions are investigated: the galactic center and the galactic satellites.

Dark Matter Searches with GLAST

Indirect detection of particle dark matter relies upon pair annihilation of Weakly Interaction Massive Particles (WIMPs), which is complementary to the well known techniques of direct detection (WIMP-nucleus scattering) and collider production (WIMP pair production). Pair annihilation of WIMPs results in the production of gamma-rays, neutrinos, and anti-matter. Of the various experiments sensit...

Searches for Particle Dark Matter with the Glast Large Area Telescope

The Large Area Telescope (LAT), one of two instruments on the Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) mission, scheduled for launch by NASA in 2007, is an imaging, wide field-of-view, high-energy gamma-ray telescope, covering the approximate energy range from 20 MeV to more than 300 GeV. Annihilation of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles, predicted in many extensions of the Standard Mode...

Constraining Dark Matter hypothesis through Diffuse Source observations with the GLAST-LAT detector

The Gamma-Ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST), scheduled to be launched in Fall 2007, is a next generation high energy gamma-ray observatory. The Large Area Telescope (LAT) instrument on-board GLAST with a wide field of view (> 2 sr), large effective area and 20 MeV to >300 GeV energy range, will provide excellent opportunity for future Dark Matter studies. We present an overview of the GLAS...

Dark Matter: the Connection with Gamma-Ray Astrophysics Discovering Dark Matter particles with astrophysical observations

We review the status of indirect Dark Matter searches, focusing in particular on the connection with gamma-ray Astrophysics, and on the prospects for detection with the upcoming space telescope GLAST and Air Cherenkov Telescopes such as CANGAROO, HESS, MAGIC and VERITAS. After a brief introduction where we review the fundamental motivations for indirect searches, we tackle the question of wheth...

Fitting the Gamma-Ray Spectrum from Dark Matter with DMFIT: GLAST and the Galactic Center Region

We study the potential of GLAST to unveil particle dark matter properties with gamma-ray observations of the Galactic center region. We present full GLAST simulations including all gamma-ray sources known to date in a region of 4 degrees around the Galactic center, in addition to the diffuse gamma-ray background and to the dark matter signal. We introduce DMFIT, a tool that allows one to fit ga...
